The Château de l'Isle, ideally located on the ‘route des Vins du Médoc’, has applied in June 2015 for our ‘Chambres d’Hôtes de Charme’ to be included very soon in ‘Les Routes du Vin de Bordeaux en Médoc’, a project initiated by regional bodies Gironde Tourisme & Pays Médoc as part of Medoc region ongoing application for the ‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ (Vineyards & Discoveries) national ‘label’.

The Château de l'Isle is ideally located on the ‘route des Vins du Médoc’ and with this in mind we have applied in June 2015 for our ‘Chambres d’Hôtes de Charme’ to be included very soon in ‘Les Routes du Vin de Bordeaux en Médoc’, a project initiated by regional bodies Gironde Tourisme & Pays Médoc as part of Medoc region ongoing application for the ‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ (‘Vineyards & Discoveries’) national ‘label’.

The ‘label’ ‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ (‘Vineyards & Discoveries’) is a national reference in France for wine regions willing and having the resources to develop wine tourism, i.e. a selection of quality services in vineyards, events, accommodation, landmarks, restaurants & wine bars, tourist information centers, sport and leisure activities…

We are fully committed to this initiative and to wine tourism development in Medoc, a type of eco-friendly tourism with many assets. This new ‘label’ will make it easier for visitors to find their way around, will give greater exposure to Medoc as a wine tourism destination, will value the cultural aspect of wine, will improve the image and knowledge of the different actors in wine tourism which we are proud to be a part of. This is also a positive step with the opening in June 2016 of the ‘Cité des Civilisations du Vin’ in Bordeaux : a signature landmark, an emblematic place, a unique cultural centre, an immersive interactive multi-sensory experience, a defining project for Bordeaux as a whole.

Having worked abroad and having welcome since 2012 hosts from 43 countries at Château de l’Isle, we are more than aware of the worldwide recognition of Medoc as a magnificent wine area. Medoc has some further potential for wine tourism related development in an environment friendly manner.

We already inform our hosts of the wine treasures within Medoc through a guide we prepared ourselves and available in French and English where we describe our own experience of having visited 26 wine Châteaux from the 8 different Médoc ‘appellations’. We discuss with our hosts the visits, our experiences, our favorites and theirs…

The ‘chambres d’hôte’ in Château de l’Isle are classified ‘5 épis Gîtes de France’, the highest distinction possible and obtained by only 84 ‘maisons d’hôtes’ in France (2 in the Bordeaux area including ours) out of 9313 classified ‘maisons d’hôtes’ through Gîtes de France, the leading quality ‘label’ in France since 1951. The ‘maisons d’hôtes’ classification by Gîtes de France takes into account the architectural quality of the house, its environment, its comfort, its decoration and its services.

We are already fully compliant with the requirements of the future ‘label’ and the nearest vineyards are only 3 km away.

As a conclusion, we very much look forward to ‘Les Routes du Vin de Bordeaux en Médoc’ being operational as this initiative will remedy some of the difficulties currently experienced by visitors to our wonderful area and wine country.
